(Super Nintendo Entertainment System)

The Super Nintendo (SNES) was introduced to US audiences in 1991 after its initial launch in Japan a year earlier as the Super Famicom (SFC). It introduced an upgrade to 16-bit graphics, as a response to Sega's Genesis, improving sound and visuals dramatically in comparison to its predecessor. The console was sold with Super Mario World included, providing one of its most popular and successful titles as a pack-in game. Its most successful (and highly regarded) titles include the aforementioned Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, among many others. The console is very highly regarded as one of the all-time greats, providing one of the most diverse and interesting catalogues in gaming.
