Nintendo 64

The Nintendo 64 (or N64) was introduced to international audiences in 1996, excluding Europe and Australia's late launch in 1997. The console is notable for its progression to a 64-bit CPU, a large upgrade beyond Nintendo's 16-bit Super Nintendo, and Sega's 32-bit Saturn and Sony's 32-bit PlayStation. The introduction of 3D graphics provided the hardware foundation for existing Nintendo titles being upgraded to the third dimension, namely the Mario and Zelda franchises. It sported a controversial controller, centered around a joystick and its signature "c" buttons. The console was largely a success, primarily due to a few key titles such as Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie, and GoldenEye 007. The console has since garnered significant critical acclaim.
