Sega's
Dreamcast console was introduced to US audiences in 1999 after its initial launch in Japan as in 1998. The console introduced online play, including a built-in modem, and provided internet access to users through its interface. The Dreamcast failed to survive after the PlayStation 2 was introduced in 2000, making it a commercial failure despite a number of successful and innovative titles such as:
Sonic Adventure,
Shenmue, and
Jet Set Radio, among others. It has since become more highly regarded by fans.
