Sergey Kuryokhin - Introduction in Pop Mechanics (1987), 5/10

Sergey Kuryokhin’s live release Introduction in Pop Mechanics achieves a truly unique sound. Whether or not you enjoy that sound will be entirely up to your inclination for the band’s interplay and their blend of histrionics and improvisation. The middle of the recording leans into this dynamic and it results in the most enjoyable sections, playing with space and motility quite well. The band struggles more with creating satisfying chaos, as their strengths lie more in the give-and-take formed through uneasiness or disquiet. An excellent instance of live improvisation that is certainly worth listening to for its uncommon spirit and style.
